Due to continued growth, we are looking for a CTO to support the CEO and his entrepreneurial management team, in providing strategic and operational direction over all aspects of technology within the business. The CTO will be a key member of the leadership team with full responsibility for technology and systems.

Who we are

UniLED Software was born in 2017 following client demand through its sister business UniLED Solutions, the market leader of digital-out-of-home screen maintenance and content management in the UK. The company has developed and deployed 2 bespoke online platforms dedicated to servicing the digital-out-of-home market. UniLIVE our content delivery and independent verification platform and UniHUB a service management tool which streamlines the management and maintenance of digital signage networks for media owners. 

Job description

Reporting to the CEO you will be responsible for meeting the requirements needed for the scale-up of a best-in-class technology function. The function currently consists of 2 Lead Developers, a Senior Front-End Developer, 2 PHP Developers, a Business Analyst/Tester, a Technical Architect, a Technology Change Lead and some outsourced developers. Technology infrastructure is currently outsourced.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the technology supporting the company’s strategic objective of being the standard platform for ad serving and verification to the global DOOH market
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary IT and Systems team including support, infrastructure, development, business analysis, project management and security
  • Oversee the product roadmap and agile software development lifecycle
  • Ensure we are using the most appropriate technological infrastructure for the products having regard to the Company’s strategic goals
  • Ensure the product meets business demands in the short term, and is future-proofed for the longer term
  • Build, grow and develop the “A” team ensuring key talent is recruited and their potential maximised.
  • Ensure a good culture throughout, with a focus on communication, creating a collaborative environment and nurturing talent
  • Capacity planning and P&L oversight of the technology function
  • Board-level reporting

Skills & experience


  • Prior experience as a hands-on CTO in technology scaleups, within a fast-paced SME entrepreneurial growth environment
  • Strong executive-level stakeholder management experience
  • Demonstrable inspirational leadership of a high performing team
  • Experienced procurement of outsourced resource, including know when best to utilise this resource vs the in-house team
  • Experience in refining business processes and management
  • Strong project management skills
  • Commercial approach to risk-based decision making under pressure and constraints


  • PHP experience using tools and best practices
  • Good understanding of Product
  • Good understanding of :
    • Front to back web technologies
    • Other development and scripting languages including Java
    • Other technologies available and emerging
    • AWS and cloud technologies
    • Technology architecture and best principles
    • Data modelling
    • Database design
    • Business planning and budgeting
    • The development process including Agile techniques
  • Relevant degree and qualifications
  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Excel and Visio (or equivalent)
